Adventures in Yarn Crafting

I am sure you all remember the film Adventures in Babysitting. Well think of me as Elizabeth Shue's character getting in over my head on what should have been an easy undertaking.

I am realatively new to knitting and crocheting since it has been approximately 20 years since I last crocheted something (a dress for my favorite Barbie Doll) when I was about eight years old or so. About 6 years ago my mother bought me a set of the Knifty Knitter looms for Christmas, which I used to make two scarfs and a hat and then I got pregnant and didn't touch them again until this past Thanksgiving.

I decided that I needed a new scarf which I made and liked it do much that I decided to make matching hat and scarf sets for all of my family as Christmas gifts. I was trying to minimize costs and would only buy yarn for one project at at time since I was concerned that I would get bored and quit again as soon as Christmas was over and went to the craft stores about twenty times in that first month. While I was there I kept seeing the same crochet book with these absolutely adorable little stuffed animals over and over again while I was there. It was Easy Crochet Critters (Vanna's Choice) I didn't remember how to crochet but eventually I broke down and bought the book and and sat down to reteach myself to crochet. I made this absolutely adorable elephant and since then I have been "hooked". I absolutely love making amigurumis and have even made a few blankets as well.

Like the fearless heroine in Adventures in Babysitting I am fumbling my way through the world of yarn craft. There will be many roadblocks as I continue my journey but hopefully I will come out on top.

In upcoming posts I will be sharing my adventures, blunders and projects as well as sharing tips and tricks that I have learned to make this whole process easier.

Thanks for reading and feel free to leave comments with questions or topics for future posts that you would like to see!

  1. Your mom may have have helped push you into the world of knitting, but you pulled me into the world of Amigurumi. I'm enjoying sharing the experience with you. All the neat tips and tricks you have shared with me have made learning the craft so much easier, not to mention a nicer finished item. Thank you for sharing.
    Mom.
