One of my favorite things about Ravelry is that you can interact with the designers and even get to test out patterns for them before they release to the general public. It's kind of like having your roommate read over your term paper to check for grammatical and spelling errors before you turn it in.
My current work in progress is a black swan pattern that I am testing for the deisgner Thompson Boutique Critters. Check out some of the other designs
here. So far it has been an interesting experience and its a lot of fun to get to work a pattern before anyone else!
